Character Education Program
Saint Joseph Catholic School has been fostering character and Gospel values for over sixty years. All Catholic schools in the Diocese of Charleston are asked to integrate all aspects of human knowledge through subjects taught in the light of the Gospel.
JOSEPH
Saint Joseph Catholic School strives to acknowledge and reinforce positive behaviors in our students. Our mission is that each student develops spiritually, strives for academic excellence and develops character based on Gospel values.
Guided by solid Christian principles, such as “The Golden Rule”, the children learn how to be truly excellent—inspired by the example of our patron Saint Joseph, the foster father of Jesus.

Christ, and supportive husband of Jesus’ mother Mary. The students in grades K4 through 6 at the school are encouraged to follow Joseph by being Just, Obedient, Service-oriented, an Example to others, Prayerful and Humble. We endeavor to instruct and remind the students and faculty of this essential message through daily lessons and interactions. In addition to providing and atmosphere in which safety is paramount, we encourage healthy interactions among the students and adults in the community, so that children feel safe, nurtured, and supported in every aspect of their lives.
Community Service
Saint Joseph Catholic School places a strong emphasis on community service. Our students are active in service projects throughout the school year and summer. Whether it is writing letters to service men and women, earning money through “Chores for Change” to benefit a local agency in need, securing canned goods for the church-affiliated food pantry or participating in other local and national service drives, our students are taught to live a life of service to God and those in need.
Virtues in Practice
Virtues in Practice is a program for children in grades pre-kindergarten through eight to grow closer to Jesus by imitating His life and virtues. It is set up in such a way that a whole school studies the same virtue each month, to provide a whole-school (and at home, whole-family) focus. The program covers 27 virtues over a three-year cycle, with 81 saints held up as models of the virtues.
Students are recognized in Mass for exemplifying the virtue of the month.
